On Friday Netflix released the movie Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey. I’ve been waiting for this movie since I saw the preview back in August. It looked like it was going to be really good. I love Christmas movies so of course, I was going to check it out. I know Netflix removes movies on a timely basis, and one might have to check the list of titles leaving Netflix in Canada to not miss any of their favorites. So I watched Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey on Friday. I actually put away my phone so I can catch every moment. It didn’t disappoint. I’m going to share the reasons why it has made I must watch movie list.
Okay let’s start with reason number one. The cast. I’m a huge fan of so many people in this movie. Phylicia Rashad, Forest Whitaker, Anika Noni Rose, and Keegan-Michael Key. I am also a huge fan of the young stars of the show. Madalen Mills who plays Journey, Kieron L. Dyer who plays Edison, and Diaana Babnicova who plays young Jessica. I think all these people just really brought the movie to life. They are all so super talented. I especially love the voices of Anika Noni Rose and Forest Whitaker. I always forget that Forest Whitaker can sing. It has been years since I heard him. Actually I don’t remember the last time I actually heard him. The man has a really nice voice though. I have been a fan of Anika Noni Rose since I saw her in Dreamgirls. Her voice is amazing. I loved seeing them on the screen. I also enjoyed Madalen Mills’ voice. to be so little she has some major pipes. The one who really surprised me was Keegan-Michael Key. I wasn’t expecting him to blow like that at all the man is full of talent. He plays a really good villain
Another reason why I loved this movie was the music and dancing. Anyone who knows me knows I enjoy a musical. Especially one with great music and dancing like this one. One of my favorite songs was sung by Lisa Davina Phillip who plays Ms. Johnston. She sung the song Miles and Miles. I really love her voice as well. I liked the whole dance number. I like a musical who can get up my feet. I also clocked that during the snowball fight between Jeronicus and Journey that I saw some African dances incorporated in that scene. I must say I found that really pleasing. It kept me really interested in the movie.
My other reason why I like this movie so much is because of the story. It shows how a person can get back on their feet after going through so much. Now it took Jeronicus awhile because he felt like he lost everything. He actually did. I was sad that he was so hurt that it strained his and Jessica’s relationship. Sometimes We need a little help to get back to what’s important and to believe in ourselves again. Journey helped Jeronicus to do just that. I think Edison helped him as well. Sometimes other have to help us bring out what we know is there but just can’t find it. I think Journey reminded Jeronicus of who he used to be and how talented he was. Especially when she figured out how to get the Buddy 3000 to work. I am not going to spoil by spilling how she got it to work.
This movie was just really great to me. I thought it was amazing! It gave me all the Christmas feels that I needed. So it will be added to my must see Christmas movie list. I can’t name a Christmas movie with an all black cast. So it’s nice to finally have one to add.
