I have been debating with myself all day on whether or not I should even write a post about the Mike Brown/Darren Wilson case. I have been seeing some unimaginable opinions on line, on TV, and heard some crazy things on the radio. I’ve learned some new things about people that I thought I knew. I will never see some people the same again. On all social media I kept scrolling because people are entitled to their thoughts and opinions and I for one am not going to argue. I have learned that if you don’t have anything nice to say then be quiet and I also have learned that if you can talk about your differences respectfully it’s best to leave it alone. I mean some friendships I know have ended today because of a disagreement on this entire situations. I mean they really have. So I have come to my blog and decided to share the things that broke my heart about this situation.
1. I already stated this in my introduction. I know this situation has ended friendships and caused a divide among families. Some of these relationships are ended for forever.
2. Mike Brown’s parents are still without their baby and probably feel like they have lost him twice since this verdict came out.
3. Mike Brown’s name will forever be associated with the violence that erupted before and after this verdict came down because the people claim to have done it in their name.
4. Nothing has been solved. No one is taking the time to come up with a better way to prevent things like this from happening. It will be a continuous cycle.
5. The message it sends to young black men and boys everywhere. This is saying that basically their lives mean nothing.
6. My husband and I have a whole new set of lessons to teach our kids. How to respond if they find themselves in a situation with the cops.
For me this situation was never about race it was about how this situation was handled. I think it could have been handled differently. I won’t lie though I do wonder if things would have been different if Mike Brown were white. However that is a question that will never be answered just like we will never get Mike Brown’s side of the story. His side will be forever lost like Trayvon Martin’s and Sean Bell’s
I just want to know when all of this will end. When will the change come?
