I have recently decided to start journaling again. I used to journal when I was younger. I remember feeling so relieved when I wrote down some of problems. I honestly don’t know why I stopped. I guess I figured I was too old to be doing it. But last week I had a pretty rough week and so I started writing again. I mean I had started before then but it wasn’t really consistent. Now I am more consistent. I have gotten over thinking it is only for kids. Journaling actually can be very helpful. I know that many people associate journaling to be only for teenage girls. However that couldn’t be further from the truth. It is really for anyone. Here is why I journal:
- It helps me sort out a problem.
- It helps me clear my mind.
- It gives me a place to say what I need to say without hurting anyone’s feelings.
- You can trust your journal to hold your feelings and secrets. You don’t have to worry about it telling something important.
I feel so much better since I have begun journaling again. Before I started journaling again, I used to be pretty bitter because I had so many thoughts and feelings pinned up. This time, one of my friends asked me to consider it as a new beginning and get a Bullet Journal. It really makes it easier to write things down. It helps you confront your thoughts and takes some weight off your shoulders. It can be really draining to carry around a bunch of emotions that you don’t know what to do with. So to have a place to let things out is definitely a must.
I also encourage my kids to keep a journal. I tell them if they write something down that they want to show me I will read it. Basically, because I understand that sometimes it is easier to write on paper than to tell someone. So I just want to give them another form of communication.
Do you journal? How does it help you?

I’ve been on a search for the perfect journal for like the past 20 years! I remember being 18 years old and going into stores in the mall just looking at, and analyzing various journals. I found some great ones but never the “perfect” one if there is such a thing. Recently I found the closest thing to it in bullet journaling which I think is such an awesome and simple way to keep a journal. I had one one dilemna though. I am always working on projects constantly and I needed a way to keep up with a project at home, or at work or wherever.
So, I actually made my own “project journals” that basically forces me to keep up with any project I’m working on, and motivates me to finish my project because of how it’s designed which is by using a sort of simplified “scrum master” process of asking 4 very important questions about the project each time you make an entry about the project. If you work on a project everyday then you are almost forced to finish it. Also, if you only make a journal entry on occasion then you’ll be moved to get motivated to finish it.
My mother once told me that the most intelligent people in the world keep a journal. I think that is a really valid point, because in a world filled with endless distraction keeping a journal allows a person to document and revisit thoughts, events, and things they did. This allows those people to learn from everything they’ve done, or ways they thoughts about things, and grow from that.
I think that keeping a journal is one of the best ways to relieve stress, get things done, and keep track of life. I’ll definitely be journaling for the rest of my life.
