I am doing something that I haven’t done in a minute. I am participating in Mama Kat’s Workshop. I chose to the writing prompt: write a blog post inspired by your pet. So here is my post inspired by Jojo our pet cat:
Ever since Jojo entered our life he has been an absolute joy. Oh sure he can be mischievous just like any other human or animal but once you give him treats like advance cat food, he’s as calm as anything. Nothing new from cats in all fairness. I’ve got to say, so far having him has been awesome. I think that having him in our lives have taught Tyler and Nishe’ many things. I thought that I would share what I think that Nishe’ and Tyler have learned since they got their pet cat Jojo.
1.Jojo teaches the kids responsibility. I think that Jojo is teaching Nishe and Tyler that it is important to be responsible. They have to tend to his needs. It is important to play pretend to learn these lessons. We help out but they do a majority of his care.
2. What It’s like taking care of something besides themselves. Jojo has taught Nishe’ and Tyler what it’s like having to care for someone or something besides themselves. He is a huge responsibility. I think taking care of him lets them know that they would not want to take care of a baby anytime soon.
3. JoJo also teaches my kids’ patience. Being that is a cat Jojo tends to do things when he wants to. When he first got here Nishe’ and Tyler wanted him to do things right at the moment they wanted him to. They have since gotten out of that.
4. Jojo has taught them a little more about boundaries as well. My kids have a tendency to over do it when they are playing with him or trying to pick him up when he doesn’t want to be picked up. So now they have some battle scars that taught them that when he gives them the no signal to respect it.
5. Jojo has taught my kids more about their love animals. The kids absolutely love Jojo. He is basically their baby. The minute he sneezes or even acts weird they are on it. Jojo had an eye infection a few weeks ago and for the past two weeks we have had to give him a dewormer because he had some lung worms and they have been tending to him like pros. They even wanted to look for cat insurance to ensure that they could always take him to the vets so they can care for him. I can especially see the love of animals in Tyler. He loves to give him his medicine.
Their love for animals is growing so much, they even now want to expand our family further with a new pet. Our friends have recently got a new puppy, and they have absolutley fallen in love with her. It’s a Pug and she is only 4 months old, so as you can imagine she is tiny.
They have spent the last few weeks trying to persuade me that Jojo would get on well with a small dog, as Pugs don’t grow big at all, even as adults. What they don’t know is that I have been doing research into how this would affect our family dynamic, and if it would Jojo’s personality. Luckily for them it turns out that typically cat’s do get on with small Pugs, but it does depend on the personality and behaviour of that cat, so we might have to introduce Jojo to our friends new puppy!
Obviously there is so much to think about before letting the kids know, first and foremost that we can afford another member of the family financially. We’re going to need food, insurance, toys, and also get them a decent bed, its not just as simple as Tyler and Nishe’ think!
Of course, I will be sure to keep you all updated, and let you know how the meet goes which should help make our mind up! I am sure either way the kids will be happy as they have so much love for Jojo, and I cannot see anything changing that.
I honestly hope that Jojo is with us for a long time cause if anything ever happens to him I think they will go crazy.
