Today I was on the phone talking to a friend of mine. Her and I were talking about the changes we want to make for 2016. I have a long list of things I want to change but I have been noticing how negative I can be lately. I can find the negative in anything. It is not a gift that I am proud of. Then I can spread the negativity to others just by sharing my negative thoughts or emotions. Like I can read a negative status on Facebook and then find myself on the phone talking with someone about it. There for spreading the negativity. Something that I don’t like can happen and instead of picking up and trying to move on I will dwell in it. When this happens it can really affect how productive my day is. If I get really upset I find myself not wanting to do anything. I decided to try something different this morning. I got up and played some music that had positive messages and I listened to it until I had to take my kids to school. I found when I did it, it really changed my mood and I felt like getting some things done. I worked out, did my hair, and cleaned up the house. All because I felt great! I decided to think of other ways that could help me start my day positively. I came up with 5 and thought I would share them.
- Music- As I mentioned before this really helped me out. I listen to at least three songs. Mary Mary’s Go Get It, Kirk Franklin’s I smile, and Mary Mary’s God In Me is some great music that puts your mind in a positive space.
- Note Reminders- This is something I plan on trying. I have seen it done on the show Being Mary Jane. Mary Jane has sticky notes all over her house that she reads with positive thoughts and goals on them.
- Exercise- I find that when I exercise I have more energy. Mainly when I do yoga or a good cardio workout. I think it is because it is awakening your body. On days that I exercise I tend to get a lot done.
- Pep Talk- Now this one may sound a little silly but I have done it a time or two. In fact I did it this morning. I just looked in my mirror and told myself I can be productive. Told myself I can do whatever I set my mind to. I think it actually worked.
- Read- Last but not least. This goes with the notes. Read a bible scripture, quote, or affirmation. Right now I have positive affirmations hanging in my room. I read it whenever I feel I need to or just because I see them on the wall. It is a great reminder of what my goals are and puts me at peace.
Now this is just what works for me. It may not work for everyone. I am open to hearing other ways to get a positive start to my day. What puts you in a positive mood?
