Last week was a rough week for me. Just like businesses, we bloggers really depend on our computers. Without them, we can’t get our work done and when we can’t get our work done, we won’t be able to make any money. Yes, they are that important. So, as you can imagine, when I face a technical issue with my devices, I am unable to proceed with any of my tasks. I don’t have much experience or knowledge when it comes to technology, and it is at times like this that I wish I was part of a business that can hire a professional it consulting company to come and help me with any issues that I have. Sometimes I wish that I have the ability to change what I use in terms of the technology, but honestly, I’m so scared to do so in case anything goes wrong and I have no way to fix it.
I didn’t even change anything last week and I faced a problem. Sunday night I was on my laptop working on some things for my blog. Let me tell this to my readers, I was already having issues with my computer. Once it showed me an error that read something similar to “Run DLL- There was a problem starting…”. However, those in the know suggested I search for some resourceful blogs on how to remove rundll errors on startup on the Internet. To be honest, it was not difficult to troubleshoot. However, this time the problems were different. But it was nothing that I couldn’t handle. My laptop screen was freezing and moving a little slow, which is why I would just restart my computer and keep going.
Sunday, however, was different. It seemed that no matter how hard I tried and how many times I restarted it things just were not getting any better. Then while working on a graphic for a blog post it just went out on me. I thought my life was over. There was so much I had been planning on doing. I felt like last week was going to be a good week. I had a few ideas I was going to type up and now it wasn’t possible. The biggest thing was that I had some files that I was going to move over but because my computer went out I couldn’t basically I thought everything was over.
I know you are wondering why didn’t I just go buy another laptop. Right now a new laptop just isn’t the budget. Honestly, I was more upset about the files than I was losing than the laptop itself. A friend of mine had just told me about e waste recycling so I knew I could dispose of it safely if I did have to buy another one. I hadn’t backed up my files in over a month. Which I had planned on doing that day. Then after freaking out for a few hours I pulled myself together and realized that it wasn’t the end of the world. I could write posts from my phone and I still had some pictures. I couldn’t wallow in what happened. In that moment I knew I would get through this. I came up with a plan and was ready to stick with it. I would get my laptop looked at and then determine whether it was more cost effective to get it repaired or just buy a new one. Until then I would just post from my phone. I was ready to do just that.
Now here is the interesting part to this story. Tuesday I went outside to put out my trash. I happened to look up and saw a neighbor that I hadn’t seen in a while. I said good morning and we began to talk. Let me be honest I planned on asking her if she wanted to buy candy from my son. We were participating in a fundraiser to raise money for his band dues. Here I am thinking I had it rough when she shared what was going on with her. Someone had broken into her car and stole not only her money but her credit cards and identification on Sunday. Additionally, she was moving because she wasn’t happy with her landlord–the owner seemed to have not made the tenancy legal even after my neighbour nagged so much. Had the landlord used the services of experts like Abode letting agents Manchester for making the tenancy legal, my neighbor wouldn’t have had to go through the pain and expense of moving abruptly.
Anyway, her situation seemed worse because Tuesday was her birthday. I told her that I felt so bad. I explained to her why I had come over. I mean I really wanted to know how she was doing and I wasn’t expecting the story she shared. Through all she was going through she went ahead and bought $5 worth of candy from my son. Then I went on to explain what happened with my laptop. She asked me why didn’t I get another neighbor to look at it. Now this neighbor lives directly next door to me and we have spoken for years and can you believe I had no idea he works on computers. I thanked her so much for telling me.
Later on I went over to my neighbors’ house and asked his partner to ask him if he would take a look at my computer cause he was sleep. Later on he told me that he would. We unfortunately after that played tag for a day or two cause he worked and I was off taking my son to his practices and running errands that I had. I finally caught up with him again on Friday. I gave him my laptop. We didn’t see each other again until I went over to his house ironically this past Sunday and I got the surprise of my life when he told me that he fixed my laptop. Now it works like a dream. Even better than it was when I gave it to him and he refused to take payment. I just feel so blessed. I just feel as if this is another sign that I am meant to do this. I didn’t know what I was going to do and everything worked out.
