I am a few days late on my review of my weekend activities. I really don’t do weekend reviews anymore unless my family and I do something that I think will interests others. Well this weekend we definitely did. On Saturday we headed over to Duluth to visit AIO Wireless. They were having a blogger event where we talked about parenting in the age of technology and how we could protect our children. The event was hosted by Stacey Connerty from the blog The Divine Miss Mommy
We talked about a lot of great tips. Here are a few:
1. Place a password on your phone’s app store. This will prevent your children from purchasing apps without your permission.
2. Turn off the location on your child’s phone. Studies show that anyone can find out where you live just by looking at coordinates on your phone.
3. Talk to your children about safely using their cellphones. Let them know your expectations and what is considered appropriate and not appropriate.
While I was there I did get to check out some of the phones that AIO Wireless had to offer. They even had some cell phones with no credit check no deposit on offer which I think is pretty nifty if you were getting it for your child. I must say they have a great selection. One of my favorite phones was this Windows phone called a Lumia 620. They had my favorite color purple. Aio Wireless offers phone plans between $40-$70 a month. Each plan gives you different features. For example the $40 plan is for a basic phone and you get unlimited talk, data, and messaging plus you get 250mb of data then the plans go up from there. So if you are looking for an affordable phone plan check out AIO Wireless. I think this would be great for a teen or a preteen. To get more information regarding wireless technology around the home, you might want to check out a site like iDisrupted to help you get started.
I thought it was a very informative event. They had things for children to do. My kids indulged in playing the different games on various phones. Tyler and Nishe’ were jumping from phone to phone. It was actually pretty funny, One of the coolest things I thought that was there is they had a table where little ones could literally draw on the table. Unfortunately I didn’t get a picture of it. They also had a car that you could play a match game and when a prize. I tried at least 15 times and still came up empty handed. It was fun to play though. There was also a giveaway for a tablet which I didn’t win but another great blogger Tiffany Wong from The Bizy Mommy won. I also got to do one of my favorite things that I don’t really get a chance to do since I’m a stay at home mom and that was interact with adults and meet new people. I really enjoyed myself and the food was good as well. They orange juice, croissants, donuts, and cupcakes. I surprised myself only had one croissant. Yay!! Me!! I stuck to my diet. We all had a great time. Including The Husband.

Those are some great tips! My phone is actually password protected and they can’t even use it! But I’m scared of the time when they have their own.

Yes my kids just got one. They use it to let me know when they are on the school bus so I can meet them at the bus stop. Right now they don’t seem interested in texting anyone else besides their dad or me.
