I have been a fan of Anne of Green Gables for as long as I can remember. I have read the books and seen the movie multiple times. When I was younger whenever the movie came on I would sit down and watch it with my mom. We would talk about Anne’s antics and laugh together. One of my favorite moments is when Anne she recites the Highway Man. To this day it is one of my favorite poems.

I was excited when I read a few months ago that Netflix was doing a remake of the movie as a series. With a platform as big as theirs (as you can see from these Netflix statistics), it is incredible just how many people could find this show. Still, I am always skeptical of remakes because sometimes they don’t do the originals justice. I do however always give them a chance. I love how Netflix does their shows so I had no doubt that they would do Anne of Green Gables justice. Of course, some people may need to use one of those vpn Netflix region swapper things to watch the show, but it should be worth it.
The show is called Anne With An “E”. The show debuted this past Saturday. I binged watched all 7 episodes in two days. I can’t say enough about this show. The first season covers Anne’s early years of living with Marilla and Matthew. She is trying to figure out her place in the family, the town, surviving puberty, and making friends. She is different than a person who anyone in the town is used to. She speaks her mind and her past life gives her a lot more of experience than other children her age.
I love how Netflix kept with so much of the original story but added a few touches of their own. It is still so much of the show that I remember. I can still relate to Anne like I could when I was a child. I see so much of myself in Anne. I never really felt like I fit in but I figured out it was just best to be myself. The series keeps it’s comedic moments. I think they picked great people to play the characters. They all did a great job. I really hope the show comes back for season 2. I really enjoyed this season.
