Yay! It’s my favorite time of the year. Autumn! Autumn has always been my favorite time of the year. Mainly because it is the one time of the year when the weather is not too hot or too cold. This time of the year is also to take advantage of the many festivals that pop up around Georgia. One great festival I suggest checking out is the Fall Festival on Ponce. This festival is going to be next weekend October 19th-20th. My family and I have heard nothing but great things about this festival and plan on checking it out for the first time this year.
Since 2011 The Festival on Ponce has taken place twice a year in Olmstead Linear Park. The park is named after it’s founder FREderick Laws Olmstead Sr. who was one of the mostw ell known designers of parks and public spaces. He proposed that the park be built over 100 years ago in the year 1893. His designs can be found in a number of parks Such as Central Park, The Biltmore in Asheville, and even the Capital Grounds of our nation’s capital. The park began to decline after years of use and because of this the Olmstead Linear Park Alliance was established. Since being established the OLPA has been dedicated to maintaining and preserving the beauty of the park for many years.
Olmstead Linear Park is made up of six different sections that you can walk through each one is just as beautiful as the next. If you attend this festival you will get a chance to see each section and appreciate the work that went into making the area as gorgeous as it is for Atlanta residents and tourists. The Atlanta fall festival is a free two day festival that runs from October 19-20th. Attendees will have the chance to see over 125 painters, photographers, sculptors, leather and metalworkers, glass blowers, jewelers and crafters. There will also be many other things to keep attendees entertained such as artist demonstrations, live acoustic music, a Street Market, children’s inflatable play area, and a variety of local food trucks. There is also a beautiful playground and a large grass field for children to play on in the middle of the park while their parents sit and relax.
