I’m not going to lie when I first heard about this new Bel-air I was a bit skeptical. Cause I saw the original. Of course I did it was in the 90’s. That was my show back in the day. My family and I used to watch it together. The show was funny and was full of life lessons. First thing I thought was there was no way this show can compete with the original. But my interest got peaked when I saw the trailer. It premiered the same day as the Super Bowl. I sat down and watched the first 3 episodes.
Bel-air stars Jabari Banks who plays Will. Will is a basketball star in Philly whose life changed after an encounter with a drug dealer one night. His mom makes the decision to send him to live with his aunt and uncle just like the original. But let me tell you it’s not at all like the original at all. The first three episodes actually caught my attention. We watch will try to adjust to his new life of course some people aren’t trying to make it easy for him at all. Especially not Carlton. Will is bringing his own mix of energy to the Banks family and challenging them in different ways. I enjoy it.
The fact that there are some similarities to the original but the show is totally different is what I love. It’s not a comedy but a more serious form of telling the story. I liked that we were able to see from the beginning. We get the full story. I also like that all the Banks children have personality. I like that the show isn’t trying to be exactly like the original. I think I really like the twist they put on the show. I like the more serious storyline. I can’t wait to see how everything turns out. I will be tuning in every Thursday.
