I have been making it a point to make more time to enjoy a good book. For awhile now I really hadn’t had the chance. Recently I realized I missed it. I decided that now was as good time as ever to make sure I started reading again. I just needed to find a good book to get started and I found that book with Blended. I came across this book at Target one day and I planned on getting it but then I changed my mind. Then I saw it again at Barnes and Noble. That’s when I decided I had to have it.
Blended is a book about a young eleven-year-old girl named Isabella who feels torn between her parents who are divorced. She feels as if she lives in two different worlds each week. This is because her dad is black and her mom is white. Her dad was now dating a black woman and her mom a white man. But she has her friends and her piano that she can turn to. Isabella is navigating the world trying to figure out who she is and deal with some incidents that happen while she is trying to figure those things out. Just to give a little insight someone placed a noose in the locker of one of her best friends. She also is preparing for a recital. She also starting to like boys. It’s so much going on for a little girl.
I honestly enjoyed reading this book. I like seeing things from Isabella’s point of view. Her world is a tough one and not many people understand where she is coming from. It made me think of all the children in her position. I never thought about how a child in her position might feel. I think that she is handles things very well. She actually had some eye opening moments. My mouth dropped when she was told that she is pretty because she is biracial. I won’t say exactly what he said. I want you to read the book. I could never understand that feeling. But reading it described by her made me understand how she feels. She is a really strong young lady. I would totally read this book again.
I highly recommend this book for kids ages 10 to adult. I really think it is great for all to read. It might even be a great source of conversation. The book has discussion questions when you finish reading.
