Description from the back of the book: England 1999. When American tourist Leah Cantrell finds an antique coin I’m a deteriorating old spring, the adage “be careful what you wish for…”didn’t enter her mine.in fact, she’s tired of wishes-they certainly didn’t ease the pain of her recent heartbreak. Nonetheless, on a whim, she tosses the coin back into the water, wanting to know who first paved the Guinea there…
England, 1815. David Traymore, illegitimate son of the Marquis of Solebury, has always felt like an outside on his father’s estate. More than anything, he’s dreamed of belonging somewhere to someone. Then came the day he recited a beautiful woman of strange attire and uncommon speech? A madwoman? A French spy for Napoleon? Or is she the answer to his wish-the woman who is his one chance for true love, the woman who can show him where his heart belongs…
I have to be honest it took me a minute to get into this book. As You Wish is written by author Jennifer Malin. It tells the tale of two people who meet after one of them Leah Cantrell makes a wish in an old spring and travels back in time where she meets David Traymore. They are both looking for happiness. He just wants to be accepted and loved for who he is despite being born illegitimate and she is looking for love as well after ending a three year relationship with someone who didn’t appreciate her. They meet and despite trying to avoid it develop feelings for each other.
David feels that Leah is crazy because the way she speaks and dresses. He doesn’t believe that she is from the future despite some of the things she tells him. He thinks she has injured herself in some way.
Leah is trying to convince David that his Dad loves him despite what he thinks. He believes that his dad wants nothing to do with him. As the story progresses he finds out other wise.
As I said before this story had a slow start but as I read more I started to get into it. I enjoyed the relationship between David and Leah. I found their relationship kind of funny. Because of the decades between them they find it hard to understand each other even though they both speak English. They do find away to work it out though.
I liked the way the story ended even though there are a few things I would change.
