As you know I have been reading the Highlander Series written by author Karen Marie Moning. I’ve really enjoyed this series. Every book was highly entertaining. I have been moving from book to book just like watching a fv series. I finished the last two books two weeks ago but I am just now getting around to reviewing them. The 6th book of this series The Immortal Highlander is to me the best book of the series. To understand why I say this I must give you a quick synopsis of the book and a little back ground on one of the main characters Adam Black.
Here is a quick synopsis of the story. Hopefully I don’t give too much away. The Immortal Highlander Adam Black has to figure out how to regain his powers after losing them in the book The Dark Highlander as punishment for challenging Queen Aoibheal the queen of the Tuatha Due’ Danaan. He had challenged her on whether Dageus MacKelter would go dark or not after his body was filled with 13 souls for his decision to use his druid powers for personal gain by going back in time to save his brother Drustan. He lost the challenge so in turn the queen took his powers and banished him to earth. His ultimate goal was to find a way to regain his powers so that he can go back to being a Fae (fairy). Oh yeah not only was he banished to earth without powers he was invisible as well. So he also has to find someone who can see him.
Gabrielle O’Callaghan had been taught from a young age ever since it was discovered that she was a Sidhe-seer to ignore the Faes when she saw them. She was taught that if it was discovered that she could see them that she could be killed. She had done this for years. Sometimes it was hard when they showed up surprisingly but she had been doing a great job. That is until the day that Adam Black came into her life. She had no idea what she was getting herself into when she let it be known that she could see him. Especially when she found out that he was definitely a Fae that she didn’t want to cross paths with. Adam had a bad reputation and not just one here and there but his reputation went back for centuries since he was immortal. After reading about him in her family book she tried everything she could to avoid him but he gave her no choice when he showed up to her house and insisted on her help to regain what he considered to be a normal life. She had no idea that she would fall for the baddest Fae around. Her life was about to change dramatically. She was about to go on an adventure that she never imagined in her wildest dreams.
Okay now that I have given you a quick synopsis into the book. I can tell you why I think that it is the best one of the series. While I loved all the books this one is my favorite. The reason is because we get to see another side of Adam Black. A more softer side. In the other books except for one he was some what of a villain. In this book you begin to understand why he is the way that he is. Although I don’t think this excuses his past behavior. I think that it is fitting that a woman whom he loved brought this side of him. He always put up a tough front even though at some points you can see through his façade. I love stories when the villain turns hero. I also liked Gabrielle. She tried her best to avoid Adam and trust me girlfriend fought hard but she just couldn’t win. She was always drawn to the Fae. She had to get pass what she was taught to believe in when it came to them. Now some of what she was taught was true but other things weren’t. As she goes through her journey he shows her what is real and what isn’t. Mainly that not all Fae are evil and are not out to harm Sidhe-seers. I like to see Adam wear her down like Steve Urkle did Laura in Family Matters. I totally recommend picking up this book and reading it but not before reading the other books in the series. It will help you understand how Adam came to be where he is now.
