This weekend my brothers and I were all together for the first time in a few months. We met up with some family members to celebrate our grandmother’s birthday. I was so glad for this moment because I have sort of been being a bad granddaughter. I hadn’t seen my grandma in a few years. I was just telling The Husband that I needed to go see her when this came up. Thanks to my cousins. They put all of this together and I was so glad that they did. My grandmother has reached the big 8-0. She is a beautiful 80.
My grandmother is such a strong woman. She raised eight kids and worked. She also cares for her grandchildren. I remember spending the night with her during summer vacation and having fun. She would fill the house with snacks and we would have so much fun. I truly admire my grandmother. She is such a beautiful woman who is not afraid to tell you like it is. She has so much wisdom to share. I think that she is a very great and powerful woman. I was so thrilled to be in her presence. She has so much love that she is surrounded with her kids, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. I could tell my grandmother was enjoying being around her family. She smiled the whole time. She enjoyed all the conversations and seeing her family together. For me she is my only living grandparent. I loved the time I spent with her. It was interesting to speak with her on an adult level although I still felt like a little kid. I just looked and admired the person who made my mom the strong woman that she is today. Which made my mom make me who I am today. Half of me started with her. I am truly honored to come from such greatness. It was just great to see her again. I hope to reach 80 and be able to be surrounded by as much love and admiration like my grandmother.
The evening turned out to be amazing. I got to spend time with my grandmother and to see family members that I hadn’t seen in a long time. Most of them I met their little ones for the first time. It was just so much fun. This is what family should be doing together. This is time that you will never get back, as one day, everything will change. But spending this time together has made me think about the people we have lost. Everyone has experienced it or will experience it, at some point in their lives. It is one of the worst things you will ever have to go through. This is why this time is special. I am more blessed than most. I know people who want to learn more about their family by looking through something like these Chicago Tribune obituaries, or obituaries in the state they reside in and I am lucky to receive that information from family members who are right next to me. I realized this when I took some minutes to take in my surroundings.
At one point during the dinner I looked around and took in my family and looked at my grandmother and saw how much she was surrounded with love. Our family began with her. I caught her taking it all in and smiling. I could tell that she was really enjoying herself. She liked seeing the family together. It wasn’t all of us but a large number of family members. It was so much fun. I can’t wait for the family reunion. I really enjoyed spending time with them all especially my big brothers. I think the most shocking thing I found out was that a majority of my family actually read my blog. I was really surprised. So I hope they smile when they read this.
Happy 80th Birthday to her. She sounds like an amazing lady.
It’s wonderful that you had such a nice time visiting your grandmother! Visiting family is one of my favorite things about traveling up north.

I’m sure you all made her day. She doesn’t look one bit of 80! Happy birthday to her. What a blessing to be surrounded by family.
Yes! She was so happy. I hope I look like her when I get that age.
Visiting my granny was always the best parts of my summer — and sometimes weekends too! We had a big party for ours when she turned 80 as well.
