I’ve been doing pretty good working out and eating a bit more healthier. I have lost some weight. I have been able to stay more consistent since I have been on the Medifast weight loss program. You can read my most recent update about that here. It has been a lifesaver. But I still give in to temptation sometimes. But food is not my biggest temptation. After next week my kids will be on summer break. I look forward to spending time with them but I don’t look forward to the temptation to be lazy. It is so easy to just sit around during the summer. My main motivation has been walking my kids to school. After I do that then I take an extra loop around my neighborhood for good measure. I find that when my kids are on breaks I tend to get extra lazy. I figured they don’t have anywhere to be and neither do I unless they have an appointment somewhere. Last summer my son was in band camp so I was a little more active than I usually am but when he didn’t have camp I would sit around. I did the same during Thanksgiving break and Christmas break. I am trying to do better than I have done in the past.
In addition, this summer, I may consider repairing my air conditioner. I don’t think I have had it serviced in a long time. Considering the season now, I feel it is really important that we have an AC unit in the house, and it of course, should be in working condition. Not sure about my existing unit though! I think I have to start looking for professionals who can do AC repair in Keller TX so that my children don’t feel hot even while they are inside the house. Also, when I get home from a walk, I want to feel relaxed.
Anyway, this summer my goal is to get out and walk at least 3 times out of the week. My daughter has told me she wants to start running. She plans on trying out for track. I just want to stay on track and continue on this road to being healthy. It is actually scary to me that I may not be able to keep this up. I have also been considering a visit to the cardiologist just to get my vitals checked and see if all’s well. This way, I can be assured that there’s no problem even if I decide to push myself in my fitness journey (which I haven’t been doing so far, but plan on doing soon). But having my Fitbit has become motivation as well. I am doing great and I am kind of scared that I am going to fall off the wagon. So I am determined to stay on though.
As I realize that my kids will soon have their own lives so I will not always be able to use them as motivation all the time so I have to find a way to motivate myself to get off my butt. I have been encouraging myself to do things like running in place and just simply move instead of just sitting down most of the day. It is going to be a challenge but I think I can make it. Here is my plan to stay on track:
- Set a time to get out and walk/run.
- Make a schedule.
- Don’t guilt if I don’t make a run.
- Stay moving. Like I’ll clean the house or just jog in place or walk my stairs.
- Continue with my evening workouts at least 3-4 times a week.
How do you plan on staying motivated to workout this summer?

I take the opportunity to swim during summer, so that’s my exercise for the season…
