Mama Kat’s Writers Work Shop Writing Prompt: Tell us the story of how your pet came to be a member of your family.
I will be telling you how it is that Oreo got to live with us. As you know, we got Jojo in February. About a month or two after we got our cat Jojo, Oreo came. We got Oreo from our cousin. It was a bit rough for about……a week. Our Veterinarian says it is natural for the first pet to develop animosity towards new pets that are introduced in their territory.
After that week, things were good. It was a surprise to me and Tyler when we got Oreo and it was DEFINITELY a surprise to Jojo, who was a little upset with the change. As we tried everything to make them comfortable, we provided them with nutritious cat food similar to Dr. Marty Nature’s Feast, bought them new cat toys, and petted both cats equally so neither Jojo nor Oreo would feel bad. But when we put them to bed, one had to go into the bathroom and one had to do into the cage.
One time, Jojo was trying to get out of the bathroom. We let him out and he walked right over to the cage, where Oreo was, lifted up the sheet that was over the cage, and hissed at Oreo. I was awake at that time, trying to go back to sleep because Jojo woke me up. I grabbed a water bottle and sprayed Jojo because I did not want a fight to start between them. After spraying Jojo, I put Jojo in a box and then put a blanket over the box. Then I got back in my bed and went back to sleep. Now, Oreo and Jojo get along great and we are all happy. Now, they play together, sleep in the same place, share the same space, and when we feed them pet food (like those you can buy with Ultimate Pet Nutrition deals), they eat peacefully without fighting with each other or making a fuss.
This has been going on for…..I’d say 7 months with no problems. Oreo is playful, loveable, silly, greedy, and fun. That’s Oreo and how he became apart of our family.
