Echoes of Family is a book about Marianne Stokes. She is a woman who is dealing with manic depression. After a car accident, she flees to England to deal with some things from her past. This includes a suicide attempt, an old flame who is now a vicar, and coming to terms with the death of another lover. She believes that if she doesn’t coming to terms with her past that she will not fully be able to cope with her manic depression. While she is doing this her husband Darius and adopted daughter Jade are trying to figure out how to help her. Do they go after her in England or stay behind like Marianne requested?
Gabriel gets the shock of his life when Marianne turns up in his church bringing all the memories of their past with her. Things that he thought he had long moved past or forgotten more than 30 years ago. Now he has a choice to make does he honor his position as a man of the church and help her or does he turn her away. Is he willing to open Pandora’s box and sacrifice his current life to help her find answers? Either decision he makes can have consequences that he is not prepared for.
Echoes of Family gives us a glimpse into what depression looks like. Depression is not the same for everyone because of course everyone is different. I think that Marianne is a very strong individual. She has such a powerful story. When you find out the whole story you’re going to be amazed that she survived it all. Cause after reading it I just don’t know if I could have handled all that she did. In her journey she also helps the people who are meant to help her. They have demon themselves that they didn’t know about. She also suffers another lost. I think the message in Echoes of family is that with the right support you can survive depression and you don’t have to let it win. But also that sometimes depression will win. You’ll understand that part if you read the book. It is a very emotional book filled with heartbreak and love.
I honestly didn’t think I would like this book. In fact I actually disliked it at first. But it turned me around as I read further. I even laughed at some points. You actually have to give it a chance. The people who help Marianne come out on the other side Darius, Jade, and Gabriel are very important. When helping someone with depression you tend to forget about their family and friends are also in it with them. I have never personally had to be a support system for someone with depression but reading this book I can tell the road isn’t easy. I am glad that I read this book. I think that I would read it again. I would recommend Echoes of Family for people ages 16 and up. Although there are no graphic sex scenes. Actually they talk about the couple having sex but it isn’t descriptive just a mention of afterwards. I think the topic of depression is a heavy one.
Echoes of Family can be found at Barnes & Noble and on Amazon.
