I have the end-of-summer vacation blues. I live for the summer vacation. The chance to spend quality time with your family is something that is so special to me, and of course, like every family up and down the country, we want to make the most of this time. My friends didn’t waste any time in booking their vacation. They went to the Hawaiian islands. Can you believe it? Hawaii! That is my dream destination. They got up to so much fun, and going on a boat tour with somewhere like kaikanani.com was definitely their highlight of the trip. Their pictures look amazing, so maybe that is something we should plan for next year. It will be well worth the wait. But that is for the future. For now, we have to focus on what is front of us, and that is the upcoming school year.
You see while I am thrilled that my kids are back in school I am also kind of sad. After being out of school for 2 and a half months you get used to having your children around again and if you are in my situation where everyone is old enough to go to school then you are the only one at home. Things would be different if they were in a private christian school as there are particular times that they would come back and I would get used to not seeing them (still miss them like mad!) but I wouldn’t be heartbroken each time as we’d have structure. There are some things that I won’t miss like the fighting they did on occasion. I just enjoyed the time I had with my kids and talking to them. It is crazy as much as I like having them around I couldn’t wait for them to go back while it was summer but now that they have been back in school for the past two weeks I can’t wait for their next break so that I can spend time with them. I was thinking that maybe we could all do a family activity like gardening, it will teach them to see something through and be patient, it can be very therapeutic. One of our family friends does it with her kids and uses trugreen in connecticut services to keep it looking fresh and green, so it is also something beautiful to look at. Gardening is an all-year activity, and I think it will benefit us all to do it.
Now I am readjusting to being home alone and trying to find ways to entertain myself. Which I have found a number of ways. In addition to cleaning up the house, I spent the past two days repairing and fixing things that have been crying for attention for a while, and most importantly, I got the air conditioner that has been continuously working for the past two months serviced by hiring an HVAC Company. Following all of that, I started reading, writing my blog, and have even started exercising again. I am even going to challenge myself to venture out of the home and get involved in some activities while they are at school. Then when they are home on their next break I will be able to enjoy my time with them again.
Now while I miss my babies at the same time I am glad that they are back in school. Nishe’ has entered her first year of high school and Tyler is in his second year in middle school. I can’t wait to see all that they learn and how they challenge themselves. I have already started to see a change in them. They are both showing interests in doing extra curricular activities which they have never done before. The fact that they are interested has me so excited. Tyler wants to do band and Nishe’ wants to join book club and a group called SADD. I know this year is going to be full of new adventures for them both. They are going to learn so many new things about education and themselves. So I have buckled my seatbelt and am ready to go along for the ride.
What are you looking forward to this school year?
