La La Land Mommy: Family Hike At Vogel State Park & Helton Falls

This weekend my family and I decided to go hiking. The Husband had seen a picture of a view on Instagram and he asked the poster where the picture was taken. The poster was gracious enough to tell him that it was taken after climbing the Blood Mountain Trail here in Georgia. So he decided that is what we would do that weekend. We headed out after figuring out how to get to the trail. We found out that the trail could be reached through Vogel State Park. I was really excited cause I love hiking. I did it a time or two when I was a younger and of course we’ve climbed Stone Mountain a few times.

Climbing the trails were so much fun and relaxing we were able to talk and take in nature. Tyler and Nishe’ enjoyed finding walking sticks and throwing rocks into the streams. People were really friendly as we passed them they would say hello. Unfortunately when we got to the top we discovered that we climbed the wrong trail. We climbed a completely different trail than we intended to. We still were able to see a great and beautiful view as well. But it was definitely worth the hike. It was a great bonding experience. We found out the trail we actually wanted to go to is twelve miles and to hike that we would have had to show up earlier than we did to make it up and back by nightfall. It seems we weren’t the only ones intending to climb that trail. We met a couple who drove four hours from Savannah to do it and made the same mistake that we did. Hopefully we will get a chance to go back and try it again.

The second part of our little adventure was seeing Helton Creek Falls. I had been wanting to see a waterfall all summer. But we hadn’t got a chance to. As we were leaving Vogel State Park The Husband being a lover of maps and discovering interesting things found out there was one near by. At first I had no idea where we were going. We wound up going down this really interesting road. It had a lot of twists and turns. It was very narrow. It actually freaked me out. The man has some serious driving skills. I mean that road was really narrow to the point that if another car was coming up as we were going down at times we literally had to pull over. The kids and I didn’t find out where we were going until he pulled up and we walked up. That The waterfall is just gorgeous! I mean just so pretty! If you have never seen a waterfall I highly recommend you find one to visit. It is just amazing and so surreal. After seeing that my day was complete.
