My kids have officially been on summer vacation for a week now. I must say this school year has been a year of interesting moments. It definitely was more challenging than any year before. I think I went up to the school more this year than I have ever been in the past. Interesting things is it had nothing to do with my kids behavior. It was other things. Like teachers not putting in grades and being rude. But I think my kids learned a great deal from those challenges.
I’ve earned a great deal from the challenges too. Here are a few things I learned.
- I learned to trust my kids more.
- I learned to let go a little. I am not all the way there. Still working on that one.
- I learned that my kids are stronger than I think they are.
- I learned that I can step back and my kids know they can come to me when they need help.
The kids did great an the academic area. Both are doing amazing. My daughter kept great grades while doing both college and high school courses. My son survived his first year of high school. No real bumps in the road but me having to adjust to his interests in girls going up. But yes we definitely survived. I know he is just going to get more girl crazy as life goes on. The biggest change I noticed with my kids is how much they have matured. They are now thinking more like adults even though they still need a little push, reminder, and help. I have grown too. I am learning letting go is a good thing cause I get to see them soar.
I am looking forward to next year. I know some great things are in store. Number one being my daughter is on the road to graduation. I know my son will do awesome in whatever he chooses to do. He has goals to try some new clubs. My daughter has her heart set on some clubs as well. I can’t wait to see what they accomplish.
Did the school year end great for you? Are you ready for summer?
