I turned 33 last week. As always when I hit a birthday milestone I start thinking of things that I would like to improve on. I have a number of things I want to improve on. Things like my weight and of course my blogging goals. Another thing I want to work on is my fashion sense and also just my looks all together. I think I am a great looking person but at the same time I see areas where I can improve. Plus there are things I want to try. Like make up. I’m not a make up person the most make up I have ever tried was lipstick. Now I have the urge to see what I look like with a fully made up face. I think it is because that is something that I have never seen before. I also think it would be fun to learn to apply some makeup so that I can have my girly days. Maybe surprise The Husband with a different me.
I guess I just want to try something different that I can apply to myself. I mean everyone can always improve themselves right. I also I have been feeling a little boring as of late. Yesterday I was participating in a twitter party about make up and I honestly had no clue as to what was going on. Like I know what mascara and foundation is but if you gave them to me I wouldn’t have a clue as to how to apply them. I honestly think it would be something fun to learn.
So here I am asking what would you suggest that I begin learning about make up? What is the first thing you learned about make up? How did you find your inner girly girl?
MoxiesGroovyMom says
Yeah, I’ve never really been a girly girl, but playing in make-up every now and then can be fun. Maybe you could start by getting something done at a makeup counter. I know they will try to sell you a bunch of stuff, but you don’t have to buy. Then, take photos of yourself (sort of like Glamour Shots, but not as cheesy) so that you can remember that look and do it at home again if you like it.

The best way to find your inner girly girl would be to start small. Start off with a little eyeshadow and blush. Then maybe add some earrings and jewelry. Then slowly add more feminine clothing items to your wardrobe.

I am a total girly girl. I loved getting all dolled up with makeup and cute outfits. Most of the time when I am home being a housewife I am pretty frumpy though. I must admit, I do clean up well. My advice would be to find colors that work best for you. Practice makes perfect and watching YouTube tutorials are definitely very helpful.

When you learn can you tell me. I know nothing about makeup and rarely wear any, either – unless it’s lipstick and that’s maybe only a few times a year.

I have always loved make-up. I suggest going to a make-up counter of a brand you like and getting a lesson. MAC will even give you pictures of a face with the products they used labelled like a diagram.

Weight loss was one of my personal goals; it gets to a point when you just don’t feel comfortable anymore. It’s hard and takes a lot of dedication but the end results are worth it! 😀

The first thing I learned is less is more! Don’t overdo it or you look fake.

Well, I am he wrong person to ask about this, I rarely have a girly girl side! I tried make up but it never worked out for me – too much work. Where I lived it was really humid so if you did not carry it with you to constantly fix it you looked like a scary raccoon within hours! You are beautiful the way you are and I love that you can see that. My suggestion is – get a few products and play- have fun with it. Make sure to do posts so we can see!

I think it is great that you are doing this and probably just what you need at this point in your life. A little “me” time is a great thing. I think that makeup counters are a good place to start. I also know there are lots of YouTube videos out there to help you out and of course a ton of blogs. For me less is better and I do think you start there and play around a bit until you find out what works for you.

I think a group would be fun, in-person. Or YouTube has lots of tutorials, I bet they have some for makeup too. 🙂

My favorite tip for makeup is “look like you AREN’T wearing any!” Honestly, a little dab will do ya! I use a tinted sunscreen to even out my skin, mascara, and lip gloss for everyday wear. I think feeling a little put together helps improve my mood for the day, without having to worry about gobs of makeup.

Aww… I love this! If you have a Mary Kay distributor in your area they may host free facials and they might do a makeover deal for you too. I RARELY leave home without some powder and eye makeup but the most I ever do is mineral foundation, powder, eye shadow, liner and mascara. I used to do blush and lipstick but realized at some point it just was not for me.
So my advice would be find someone who either sells make up or who you like how they wear theirs and see if they might help you try some different looks and play around with it some on a few occasions. Maybe before a date night with your hubby? Have FUN with it! I honestly can’t remember what I first learned about makeup but I definitely have learned more through the years, such as that I really like eyeliner now even though for some reason I did not wear it as a teenager.
I hope you will share an update with some pics! 🙂

The first thing that I learned about makeup was how to apply lipstick which I did for the first time when I was 13.

What I have finally learned is to focus on a healthy glow from the inside out so that I don’t need makeup! You can also use berries or beets for some color…. 🙂

Belated happy birthday! One suggestion I can give you about makeup is to start simple. Mascara and lip gloss is a great. Add color as you feel more comfortable. Find ways to enhance your natural beauty not cover it up or look like someone else.

To find my girly-self, I always paint my nails a bright color. Pink usually helps me feel cute and girly!
