Yesterday Georgia got the first snowstorm we have had in 3 years. The last snow storm was back in 2011. That one put the city out of commission. This one was two times worst. Once again the city was shut down but this go around there were more motorists left stranded on the streets and highways. This time for hours. Children and teachers wound up having to stay in school overnight, people wound up taking shelter where they could whether it was stores, shelters, hotels, and most in their cars. My heart went out to everyone who couldn’t be home with their loved ones. So many people suffer during this time and the damage that can come from this is astronomical. Homes can get water damaged due to the snow, cars can break down, and businesses have to repair their roofs with a commercial roofing company as the heavy snow can put a strain on the building. The aftermath is hard to deal with and if we are not prepared, even more issues can crop up.
I believe there were a number of things that went wrong with this entire situation that could have been prevented.
1. Schools should have been closed.
2. Employers should have released their employees sooner.
3. Anyone who didn’t need to be on the road should have stayed home.
4. Salting the roads could have started earlier.
5. Better emergency evacuation plans should have been in place.
I’m hoping that in the near future if this happens again the powers that be learn from this and make improvements.
With more than a thousand people stranded on the roads without food, a warm place to eat, and without their families. I felt kind of bad but blessed to have my family all with me. We didn’t go out and enjoy the now yesterday but we walked to the store today and played along the way. What did you do with your snow day?

We were indoors because my kids are just getting over colds and strep so I let them play outside for 5 min….literally and we came back in. We spent the day cooking and watching old movies that we had not seen in a while
