Last weekend my family and I returned to one of our favorite hobbies. Hiking! It had been a few months since we last went. We prefer to do it in cooler weather. Last weekend the weather was perfect. This time we hiked Sawnee Mountain’s Indian Seats Trail. The Husband was told about this trail by someone who knew that we liked to hike. So that’s where we headed. Sawnee Mountain Preserve is about an hour drive from our home. Upon getting there you will be greeted by this great statue. When we saw it we just had to get a picture with it.
The kids also enjoyed looking at a glass full of bees that was inside the entry way of the Sawnee Mountain Preserve visitor center. The woman who was running the front desk was very nice and didn’t mind telling the kids what she knew about the bees. The kids loved the information she shared.
The Indian Seats Trail is about 4 miles. It takes about an hour to hike. This doesn’t include the few stops we made to observe our surroundings or to let the kids climb some of the rocks that we came across. It was fun as always. We talked and listened to music. We also spoke with people as they passed by. One passerby showed the point where we could see Stone Mountain. I wish I had gotten a picture cause it was so cool. Tyler tried to but was unsuccessful. You just couldn’t see the mountain in the picture he took.
When you get to the top of the trail and see the view you will see that the hike was well worth it. The Indian Seats are three carved seat like impressions. You can sit in each of the impressions and get great pictures. We each took a picture. Of course my favorite pictures are of the kids.
The Husband and I even found a great spot where we could just take everything in.
We really had a great time on this hike. All of our hikes have just turned out to be so much fun. You always see something different on each one. To hike at Sawnee Mountain Preserve is completely free. That is if you don’t count filling up to drive out there. But your family will have so much fun out there.
