Sunday my daughter was doing her homework and she got stomped on a question. She was looking in her book and was expecting to find the answer right in the book. When she got frustrated with that she was going to try to find the answer on the internet but I stopped her. I told her that she needed to calm down and actually read the chapter. I told her the answers weren’t just going to jump out at her. I explained to her that the reason why her teacher posed the question to her and her classmates that way was to encourage them to read. I told her that she cannot always expect to get a quick answer. Sometimes she is going to have to put in work.
After our conversation it got me to thinking. I should really be taking my own advice. She is just like me. Sometimes I want quick results for things without doing the work. My best example to date is exercising. I want to be healthier and I want to love my body but I want to see results fast. I am just learning now to just take my time because I need to learn this new life I am trying to live. You have to learn what works for you. You never learn anything in one day. I think it’s interesting how we can give the best advice to other people but never actually follow it ourselves. I think in our minds we know we should be doing. I wonder why it’s so hard to follow our own great advice. I’ve promised myself that since I gave that advice to my daughter that I’m going to follow it for myself as well.
Has there been any advice that you have given that you know you should be doing ?
