In a effort to step outside my box in my life I am also working on getting out of my routine of cooking the same thing for dinner every week when I can. It’s not that I can’t cook it’s that with cooking the same thing it is just easier. This kind of makes me lazy so I am determined to change this about myself. Last week I did ham and homemade macaroni. You can read about that post here. This week I made lasagna. Now I’ve made lasagna before but it has been a few years since I made it. So as I always am with trying new things I was nervous as heck. I was positive I was going to screw it up especially when I thought I didn’t have enough meat. I am only had a pound of ground hamburger. My paranoia with this almost caused me not to make it. But I had promised Tyler that I would make it so I decided I would give it a try and if I didn’t succeed I would just make it for him again.
Lasagna is fairly easy to make but I am one of those people who can easily screw things up. Trust me I mean I can screw up something really simple. Once I managed to burn chicken and still had it bleeding at the same time. Anyway I started out with gathering my ingredients.
-cheese
-lasagna noodles
-spaghetti sauce
-ground beef
-ragu cheese sauce (I am obsessed with this stuff it is so delicious.)
The whole process is fairly easy:
-I set my oven to 375
-I boiled my noodles (Afterwards I found out I had oven ready noodles so there was no need to boil them)
-While my noodles were cooking I browned my meat and then put the sauce on it.
-When the noodles were done I layered them in the pan and poured a layer of meat sauce, cheese, and cheese on them. (Then I repeated the process one more time.
-Then I placed it in the oven for an hour.
Then it was presented to my kids. My lasagna had to live up to their grandma’s, aunt’s, and cousin’s. I mean they make some great lasagna so I had to cross my fingers. Lucky for me they loved it. I was really happy that they liked it. Only thing I wish I had was sausage. It tastes so much better with it in it. I am hoping this is the start of introducing mine and my kids pallets to different things. I’m going to try to fit something different into our grocery budget each week. Lets see.
Did you cook anything different this week? What is one thing you cooked for the first time or has been a minute that you cooked and you cooked again for the first time? Thanks in advance for your comments.
