This Thanksgiving my family and I did something a little different. Instead of going to have dinner with family like we normally do we decided to stay home. So it was just the 4 of us here in our home. Here’s where my mom fail comes in. I knew we would be staying home but when I went grocery shopping I neglected to buy the makings for a fitful Thanksgiving meal. It wouldn’t have been the big feast that we were used to but I could have gotten something. So Thanksgiving Day Nishe’, Tyler, and I were talking about how we missed the food we usually had. While I still made a nice meal which was Macaroni, barbecued chicken, corn, and rolls it just wasn’t the same. Although it was delicious. So I promised my babies that I would give them a Thanksgiving Dinner Do-Over with all the silverware (find them on williamwalter) to make up for not doing it on Thanksgiving. Well, that was almost 3 weeks ago. I asked them what they wanted and immediately they both said homemade macaroni and ham. I asked them if they wanted anything else and they said no. So this weekend I made good on my promise. I bought the things that I needed for macaroni and some ham. Then I made the meal on Monday.
So on Monday after picking the kids up from the bus stop I started on dinner. I started with the macaroni. Now I was really nervous about making the macaroni. This was because I attempted to make it a few months ago and it didn’t turn out the way I wanted it to. My kids and I still ate it and it was delicious but it wasn’t the macaroni I was used to. I wanted the macaroni I have eaten that was made by numerous family members like my mom, grandmother, aunts, niece, and sister-in-law. So I was praying that it would especially since I added an extra ingredient. You can see it in the picture. My macaroni consisted of the following
– cooked macaroni
-2 eggs
-2 cups of milk
-3 cups of shredded cheese
– black pepper
-and my own touch of ragu cheese sauce
I put it in the oven on 350 degrees and I cooked it for an hour. I also cooked it earlier than I did last time. Last time it was kind of a rush job since I waited so late to cook it. Definitely a lessoned learned. When there was 30 minutes more time for the macaroni cooked I put in the ham. Then I cooked some string beans and rolls. After the macaroni was done I said a prayer and took it out of the oven. It looked done. For me the test was when I cut it. When I cute It I got that perfect square. I was happy. I actually did a happy dance that my macaroni was a success. For the ham, I simply roasted it in the oven, using an internet recipe. It was one of those fool proof recipes so I couldn’t really get it wrong. I used my slicer, which only comes out at thanksgiving and Christmas, and sliced away. Quality Globe meat slicer parts can be found at National Band Saw at low prices. I fixed my babies a plate and it didn’t take them long to finish their first or second helping. I was so proud of myself. Now next time I make it I can do it with a little more confidence. I was so happy that I was able to give my kids the Thanksgiving meal that they desired. It was an absolute success
Glad you finally got your Mac and cheese right! I never though if using ragu cheese sauce!
Ragu Cheese sauce hmmm never heard of that one. Long as that inside is good and cheesy you are good to go.
