#NaBloPoMo: Tell us about one time that you benefitted from the kindness of strangers.
I have to say I have benefitted from the kindness of strangers a number of times. But there are a few times that stand out to me. One time I was in the grocery store. I believe a number of us have had a moment such as this. I did all my shopping. One thing I try to do is stay within my shopping budget because being that my husband is the only one working money is often tight. Every week we sit down and determine what bills we need to pay and where the rest is going. I am usually pretty good at standing in the budget. This one time I wasn’t. I actually left my calculator at home this day. I usually carry it around so that I can calculate groceries as I go. Well when I got to the checkout counter and the cashier rung me up I found out that I was over budget. I was so embarrassed because I became that shopper. The one who was not only holding up the line but the one who had to put things back. Honestly I couldn’t put anything back because we needed it all and I was having the hardest time deciding what we could do without. But this kind gentleman behind me told me to go ahead and pay what I needed to and he would pay the overage. I told him he didn’t have to but he insisted and said that he was in that situation before and that someone blessed him so he wanted to bless me. I was so very appreciative and I thanked him.
A week after this I was able to pay it forward and help someone else out. This gentleman was in a wheelchair and he wanted to purchase some bread, beans, and hotdogs. I just so happened to be at the store to pick up some things and I was in line behind him. He was going to put the hotdogs back but I told him to go ahead and get them that I would pay for them. I felt happy that I was able to return the kindness that was paid to me. I felt great!
Have you ever been able to return the kindness that was paid to you?

I try to pay it forward as often as possible. They say that giving triggers a response in your brain, dopamine(?) at a higher rate than when someone does a kindness to you. Says a lot doesn’t it?
