I haven’t done a weekend review in a few months. I stopped because I figured everything I do couldn’t possibly interest everyone. However I thought that I would share if I did do something interesting. I think that our trip to Birmingham Alabama this past weekend definitely fits that bill. The Husband and I have been talking about visiting Alabama for a while now. Last week we decided to do it and then we had to decided what we were going to do. So we headed over to Groupon to see what deals were there. We came across Vulcan Park and Museum . They had a deal to where we could all go to visit for $12. We thought it would be a great place to take the kids since neither us or the kids had been. I don’t know I just enjoy having first experiences as a family.
So as soon as we woke up we got dressed and we were on our way. It took us about 3 hours to get there. It took us a while because we stopped to get something to eat and hung out at the place for a while. The ride was a pleasant one. We have a habit of not telling the kids where we are going because we like for them to be surprised and it prevents them from asking a lot of questions. I think they have gotten used to it because they didn’t ask any questions they just enjoyed the ride. We talked and chatted with each other or they read. When we got there they were surprised. They wanted to know where we were at and why we were there. We paid and entered. One thing that I really liked about Vulcan Park and Museum is that the park gives the kids a scavenger hunt to do while they visited. So while we were there the kids had to look for certain things both inside and outside the museum. This meant that they had to read and really pay attention to what they saw. It was actually pretty fun. Cause The Husband and I helped them. The kids were expecting to get a prize for doing it but were pleasantly surprised when the lady at the admissions window told them that their prize was that they learned something. I couldn’t help but laugh. You should have seen the expressions on their little faces but I got a kick out of it.
After we saw everything inside we went outside and climbed the stairs to the top of the statue. There were a lot of stairs. I mean “A LOT” of stairs. All of us had to take breaks on multiple occasions. We were out of shape. I truly believe that even a person that was in tip top shape would’ve had to take a break on those stairs. There are 589 stairs inside of the statue. After we made it to the top we looked across the way and saw the elevator. Ha ha ha! We all cracked up laughing at that one. But we didn’t regret taking the climb. Either way you choose to get up there the view is well worth it. It was so beautiful. We thoroughly enjoyed. It was real fun. I highly recommend Vulcan Park and Museum for a nice family outing. However our trip didn’t here. Look out for another post to see where else we went in the next few days.

Sounds like a super fun day. All those steps are what my Hubs needs for his exercise now. The therapist is trying to strengthen some of his muscles and climbing stairs is good.
