I have been on a quest to break myself out of cooking the same meals every week for dinner. Sometimes I just get comfortable and don’t put too much effort into dinner and cook what I know. A couple of weeks ago I was reading a blog post where the author of the post shared a recipe that had dinner sausage in it. While reading the post she spoke about how dinner sausage and breakfast sausage were different. Well I had never tried dinner sausage before. After reading that post it became my mission to try it. Last week on my shopping trip for groceries I discovered that Kroger had their dinner sausage on sale and I had a coupon so I scooped it up. Yesterday was the day I decided to cook with it.
Here are the ingredients I used:
Kroger Sweet Italian Dinner Sausage
Classico Alfredo Sauce and Barilla Mini Penne Pasta
I also used mustard greens as well but I failed to take a picture of them.
I started off by placing the dinner sausage in the oven to cook. I let it cook for about 45 minutes. Which I admit was a little too long cause they came out a little burnt. I had a hard time convincing my helpers Nishe’ and Tyler that they were okay. While they were cooking I put the mustard greens after cleaning and chopping them up on the stove to cook. They were also cooked for about 45 minutes. Then I tossed in the mini penne pasta. Because I had used this box previously I wound up throwing in some regular penne as well because it was in my cabinet. After everything cooked. Nishe’, Tyler, and I cut up the sausage, mixed it in with the pasta and mustard greens, and then added the alfredo sauce.
Then I had them taste it. They loved it! This meal was a big hit with them. I am so glad. I didn’t think they were to like it because they are fans of greens or sausage. But they really liked it. They each had two plates on our extending dining table sets, then they left me a little saying I could have it for lunch. I am happy they enjoyed it. I can see cooking this again. I’m glad I tried it. Can’t wait to see what else we will try.
What new dish or food have you tried lately?
