Synopsis:
Carissa Alkippes has no idea that she is the daughter of a guide. What to be appears to be a routine day as a police officer turns into more than that when she encounters demons while following up on a tip that an informant gave her one day. She instead met the guy who would turn her world upside down. Things from her past start to make sense. She also becomes the target of a demi-god who wants all her power.
Xen Lyson is the head of an organization that has been protecting earth for over 2,000 years called Phi Athanatoi. They have protected earth from demons called Kakodiamones. These demons want to feast on humans. His life changes when he meets Carissa while she is searching a warehouse but mistakenly steps into a war. He becomes her protector when he finds out who she is.
When you read the synopsis of Phantasma by Efthalia it sounds like a pretty good book. Which it actually is. I thought it told a great story. I just wish it had answered a few more questions. Like explain more of Carissa’s past and why her parents chose not to tell her who she was? I wish she had gained more power once she found out. The only power she really had was to compel people with her mind but she never really came into more than that. This makes me wonder why the demi-god who was after her wanted her so badly. The only thing I could think of is because of who her father was. Also I feel as if this guy came out of left field. There is no real background given about him. Like why does he want Carissa’s power so bad. Why is he so angry. I just wished we got more of an explanation as to why he wanted her. They knew each other as kids so I am thinking something had to have happened at that point. I just have so many questions. I thought this book had some great action in it. I am a fan of Xen. I love how he was willing to go to the edge of the earth for his woman. He was really protective of her from the moment they met. He does all he can to save her. I think that a little more background of his organization was needed. I have some questions about him as well. I know you can’t always fit all the answers in one book but I am really curious.
I overall thought that the book was okay. I think it was a pretty good read. I am not in a hurry to read it again but I would read other books by Efhalia if she were to write another book. I think she has great story ideas. I am a fan of fantasy books. Especially ones with vampire and werewolves.
