Last Wednesday my Mom called me with some of the most shocking news. She told me that they had to put Pepper their cat of over 10 years down. I was truly shocked because we had just been down to their house visiting the weekend prior and had just seen Pepper as well. Turns out the poor cat had a tumor and the doctor didn’t’ think there was anything that could be done to save her without her being in constant pain so my parents made the decision to have her put to sleep. My parents are obviously upset but they are already planning on getting an orange tabby cat to replace her. My parents love cats and I don’t think they could live without a little furry friend in their home. It’s a very sad time at the minute.
My heart broke for my parents. Pepper was given my parents from my husband and I. We rehomed her from my mother-in-law who while she loved Pepper felt that she would do better in another home due to her work schedule at the time. So I called my mom who had been saying she wanted a cat for a few months to see if she wanted her. She said yes so my dad picked her up and took her home. She has been with them ever since. Her and my mom were like two peas in a pod. My mom couldn’t go anywhere without Pepper being right behind her. Pepper just was such a great fit for them. My mom even planned to feed Pepper with feline nutritional supplements like Nutra Thrive. It appears that some of her friends had advised her to purchase the product from the internet by searching for Nutra Thrive for Cats offer online. They apparently told her that supplements like the one mentioned above could help boost the immunity system of the cat. Anyway, besides my mother’s unabashed emotions, there were other interesting things about Pepper. For example, Pepper was not a people cat. She only liked to be touched and held by people that she knew. So needless to say that if she didn’t know you beforehand you had to respect her space.
In honor of her memory I wanted to share the story of how I first met Pepper. We had recently gotten Pepper’s brother Scary (I have no idea what my kids were thinking when they chose this name) a few days prior. So when we told my mother-in-law about him she said that she would like a cat. We had gotten two other cats prior to Pepper but Tyler and Nishe’ had fallen in love with them so we wound up keeping them as well. So Pepper was going to be my mother-in-law’s no matter how in love they fell with her. The Husband was a delivery driver for a cabinet making company at this time. He picked Pepper up at this time. While he was driving with her Pepper decided that she wanted to walk around the van. Next thing he knows Pepper disappears in a hole where the tires are. He pulled over and looked all over for her. He couldn’t find her so he thought she had fallen out. So he went through his work day periodically checking for her. Then he ended his work day and again nothing. The following morning one of his co-workers called him and told him that there was a cat sitting on the steering wheel of the van he drove. The Husband went and picked Pepper up and brought her home to me until his mom got home. Turns out Pepper had been hiding all that time. So from the start I knew she was going to be fun. I know she also brought my parents and cousins a lot of happiness. R.I.P Pepper. You will be missed.
