This weekend my family and I were off on another waterfall adventure. Our adventure took us outside of Georgia this weekend. We did go to a Georgia waterfall but we went to one in North Carolina first (look out for that post later this week).
Our companion for the trip was our one and only beloved Toyota Tacoma, which offered a good balance between comfortable street driving, taking the bumps on dirt roads at speed, and solid slow-speed off-road prowess. We loaded up our family, filled the truck bed full of gear, pulled the newly installed truck bed tonneau cover (which can be found at the likes of Peragon), and headed out on the road trip to the falls.
To be honest, we saw a total of four waterfalls this trip. They were all in a row and we had to stop and see them. I am so excited to tell you all about them.
We hit the road early Saturday morning to head to Highlands, North Carolina to visit Dry Falls. It was a two-and-a-half-hour trip. Well, we made it longer because we made a few stops along the way. We recently got some engel fridge slides installed on the back of our truck which meant we could bring a picnic with us for the trip. We stopped and enjoyed the view of North Carolina after we crossed the line between North Carolina and Georgia. The view was just gorgeous! It is breathtaking to see it with your own two eyes, I don’t mind telling you that we may have done a quick check of the best neighborhoods in Durham NC just in case we fancied a move to live somewhere that surrounds you in beauty… just a thought!
There was a waterfall near here as well. It was so pretty. We were in North Carolina on a mission to see two water falls. One was Dry Falls and the other one was called Bridal Veil Falls. The Husband wanted to see this one because you are able to drive under it in your car. Well actually behind it. He was really excited. Unfortunately we were all disappointed because the road was closed due to the weather conditions. There was ice on the road. We couldn’t drive the car behind the fall but we were able to get behind it and get some great pictures.
It was a wonderful site to see. After spending a few more minutes at this waterfall we headed to our main destination Dry Falls. With this waterfall you can go behind the falls as well. It is absolutely gorgeous! You can see the fall from two vantage points. There is an upper level and lower level. The lower level is where you are able to go behind the falls. It was a little icy but there was no ice on the ground. I think that the ice actually made the pictures prettier. You can also go around the platform on the lower level and see the fall from the other side. The Husband did this. He said that it was so pretty. This was well worth the two and a half hour drive.
If you continue down Franklin Rd. you can see two other waterfalls. One of them is named Cullasaja Falls. They are equally as beautiful. They are must sees. But in order to get pictures on one of them you have to climb some rocks so this may not be safe your for small children. You can get pictures from the shore but best pictures are out on the rocks. Unfortunately I don’t know the name of the last waterfall we passed. The pictures below are of Cullasaja falls. This was an amazing trip. I can’t wait for our next adventure.
How was your weekend? What did you do?

A bummer you weren’t able to drive behind the falls but looks like you lucked out with good weather and some great photos. Thanks for sharing. I have not been to that area but it looks like I need to add it to our bucket list.

I didn’t do anything nearly that fantastic! The waterfalls are just gorgeous! I need to plan more outdoor adventures for the family now that the weather is better.

I have yet to visit this area of the country, but it is gorgeous, especially those waterfalls. It looks like the weather was perfect during your trip as well.

The weather was absolutely amazing! A little chilly but other than that just perfect.

Wow how beautiful. Over the weekend we didn’t do much the weather was terrible so we just hung out. This is something I’d much rather do than be stuck inside!
Kgilbert says
It is really worth the trip. Even there are any waterfalls in your area I highly recommend you go check it out.

I love to see waterfalls too. There’s a big one on the Brazil/Argentina border that you can see from both sides, and man I’d sure love to go. 🙂
Kgilbert says
Man that sounds like a waterfall I need to see. I would love to see that one day.

Waterfalls are so pretty. I spent the weekend unpacking from my recent trip. It is nice to get settled back home.

Glad you made it home safely. I am kind of a homebody. So I can definitely understand where you are coming from. Yes I love the waterfalls. I hope we can go back in the summertime. I know some you can actually play in.

We don’t have waterfalls, mountains, etc here in Florida. I love visiting places that do. Your pics are beautiful!
Kgilbert says
I love Florida’s beaches. I wish I was on the beach right now actually. Thank you for the compliment on the pictures.

Seeing natural waterfalls and enjoying family time outside, that’s where it’s at! Glad you were able to get there and take some great shots

We have some great waterfalls in Oklahoma. Your trip makes me think I need to see them all.
