Around this time last year I was on the same fitness journey that I am on now. Just trying to improve my all around. I made some strides. One thing I slowly came to realize was I really had to cut back on some things that I really didn’t want to let go of. I have cut back on sweets, and eating a whole bunch of starch.
One of my biggest challenges though was cutting back on sodas. I mean if it wasn’t in the house I was fine but if it was in the house I would guzzle it down as if my life depended on it. Now let me be real I would be the main one bringing it into the house cause I do the grocery shopping. Plus I was resistant to cutting back because I love my sodas. But recently I have just taken to making different choices. Instead of buying sodas and things I was buying things like shakers and tea. All that was okay but I still needed to drink more water. One of the main reasons is due to the fact that if I don’t drink enough I easily get bladder infections. Anyone who has had one knows a bladder infection is not what you want at all. They can be painful and then you have to take medications. I don’t want that. So I made the decision to cut back even more.
This week I challenged myself to drink mainly water. Let me tell you it was not easy. I have a bottle of flavored water in my kitchen and shakers. If you don’t know what shakers are they are small packs of things like Kool aid, Hawaiian punch, Lemonade, and you can even get tea that you can add to a bottle of water. I love those things. The flavored water I get is sugar free and sodium free but it is still carbonated. So I decided to take a small break. Now I did drink a shaker or two last week but I drunk water a majority of the time. I limited myself to one drink. It was surprisingly easy. The one drink that I had I didn’t even finish. I found with will power I could drink a little and then put the rest away. As a matter fact it’s still in my refrigerator now. I see it every day but I don’t really have to drink it.
Knowing that I can stay away when necessary is something that I am proud of because I felt like I just had to have it. I would drink it over water all the time and although it was mixed with water lets face it really wasn’t water. I now know I can have it in the house and not go crazy over it. I don’t think I would have even thought about cutting back more than I already had if my husband hadn’t cut all sodas and drinks a few months ago. He started with no soda and then he just stop drinking anything but water. He was a true inspiration. He doesn’t drink it even if we go to restaurants. That guy has some true will power. I may never reach that point but I know I don’t have to have it all the time anymore.
