Bullying has become a huge issue over the years. Mainly due to some children being bullied so often that some have committed suicide and others have turned to violence. The question is what do we do about it. The school can only do so much and parents can only do so much as well. Where do parents and the school turn when they think they have tried everything to protect a student from being bullied and the person/people don’t seem to get the message and continue with their behavior. What else can be done to protect the student?
I recently read a story where a 12 year old was arrested for excessive bullying in Stamford, Conneticut. You can find the article here . Apparently the girl was continuously bullying a 13 year old girl and the school had tried on many occasions to put an end to it but the young lady only raised the level of her bullying. So much so that her victim was thinking of suicide. When it reached that level it was decided that the police were brought in. Now from the comments I read on some of the websites that the article was posted on many thought that this was an overreaction on the part of the school and the girl’s parents. What do you think?
Do you think more young people should be arrested and forced to face a criminal trial? When a case against an alleged adult perpetrator goes to trial in criminal court, the victim is often asked to testify. The idea of testifying may feel overwhelming or intimidating for some survivors of violence, particularly younger victims. Everyone responds differently to sharing their experience publicly, and testifying in court is no exception. Learning more about the process and what support is available can help victims of crime to feel more comfortable and prepared. Correspondingly, you can find further criminal trial resources online by researching local criminal lawyers in your area. For example, if you are reading from Philadelphia, researching ‘criminal lawyers bucks county‘ might be beneficial. However, can we really expect children to stand trial in this way?
Here is my opinion. I feel that if all other forms of punishment and redirection are not working then something needs to be done. I honestly do not see how the school or the victim’s parents went too far. I mean lets be real if there is documentation of everything that had been tried I think they took the logical next step. What were the parents suppose to do wait for their child to kill herself to bring charges? Same for the school were they suppose to wait for this young lady to do harm to this girl or get the parents phone call that their daughter had taken her own life. I think that kids should be shown that there is a possibility of more punishment. If it were an adult doing this they could be brought up on charges of harassment. I think that the right thing was done. If this were my child that this was happening to and all else failed I would definitely bring in the police if I feel it is necessary especially if it were making my child’s life difficult. Children have every right to be able to go where they want and to feel comfortable. What would you do if this were your child?

I think this is a very complicated problem with complicated answers and solutions. On the one hand, I’m inclined to say yes, absolutely, when nothing else is working, law enforcement should be involved. On the other hand, law enforcement in many areas is already incredibly taxed. Do they have the resources to handle this, too?

Some of these parents know when their child are bullies guess where they get the bullying from…..the parents. I don’t think it went to far. Suicide is nothing to play with and to have that on your hands and know that your child was the cause of that should hurt any parent and you should make sure it stops.
