I have recently started working out again. I am taking it slow. Right now I am doing thirty minutes in the morning. Being that I just started working out again after being off my routine for a few weeks I try not to be too hard on myself when I have to take breaks in between. But I realized something one day. I was taking more than just a few breaks. I was finding every reason to pause my video. Someone would text me and I would pause my video. If I’m honest sometimes that few seconds that I would pause would actually turn into five to ten minutes. Then I would go back to my workout video. Then I would remember I didn’t have any water. So then that was another few minutes I wasn’t working out. Just those few things here or there would take a thirty minute video to about an or longer. I also realized I wasn’t getting much of a workout. Which meant I wasn’t getting the workout that I wanted or needed to see change. Which meant I wasn’t doing the work.
So the next time I worked out I vowed to do the video straight through without taking a break. I went ahead and tried it. One thing I changed is I got up at a time where I wouldn’t have any distractions. I also made sure I had everything that I needed so I wouldn’t have to pause so much. Then I did my workout. The only breaks I took were the ones in the video. Which trust me wasn’t long at all. They literally only do a minute at the max. At the end of it I felt like I had my best workout ever. I felt the tightness in my muscles that I needed and actually felt like I worked out. Whereas before I never felt like I was doing enough.
What I learned was because I kept pausing I wasn’t getting what I needed to out of my workouts. All that continuous pausing wasn’t going to get me the results I wanted to see. Yeah I was doing the workouts but I wasn’t doing it straight through.
Since that ah ha moment I’ve been working on not pausing on other things I need to do. Because I have a bad habit of starting and stopping a bunch of things. Which is why I stay in the same place. I’m learning that once I decide to do something I need to do it from start to finish because if I don’t I will probably stop and then never get back to it. So if I get a blog post idea I will go ahead and start it and schedule it or post it. It has really worked for me so far. The change was necessary. I’m hoping that I can keep it up cause it feels pretty good. There are a few things that I still need to get started on that I plan to put into action. But I’m doing really well.
