When I was a child I remember being told that sushi was raw fish and that I shouldn’t eat it. But for some reason I’ve always wanted to give it a try. However the fact that it was raw fish stuck in my mind. Then a few years ago my mom gave me this book. In this book it was about a romance between this man that was Asian and this African American woman. One night he took her on a date to a sushi restaurant and she refused to try it at first because she assumed that sushi was raw fish. The man told her that not all sushi was raw. So I put my book down and researched and it was true. So after reading that I’ve had the desire to try sushi.
This weekend The Husband, Tyler, and I were in downtown Decatur which is about 30 minutes from our home. We did a little walking and then decided to go ahead and get Tyler’s hair cut. The Husband suggested that I take a walk while he waited on Tyler. I had been in downtown Decatur one other time but I didn’t explore it. So I took The Husband ‘s suggestion. As I walked around I came across Sushi Avenue. I thought about going on but changed my mind. I decided to head back to The Husband and Tyler. I started telling The Husband about it and how I always wanted to try sushi. He told me that if I want to try it so bad then go ahead. Again great advice so I took it. We walked back over and I went inside. I told the waitress that this was my first time ever trying sushi and asked her what did she suggest for a first timer. She suggested the California Roll. I took her suggestion. The cook who made my sushi welcomed all my questions from ingredients to how long it takes to make them. It didn’t take long for me to get my roll. It looked very pretty. The waitress warned me how spicy the wasabi sauce was on my way out.
I took my first bite immediately after I sat down and it was so delicious. I was surprised. Everything mixed well together. The crab, cucumber, and avocado made for a great combination. After eating about four rolls I got brave enough to try the wasabi sauce. Well after I made sure I had something to drink. The waitress was right it was very spicy but delicious. Trust me if you ever have wasabi make sure you have something to drink close by. I don’t know why it took me so long to have this experience. I used to want to have someone with me when I did. Technically I did but The Husband doesn’t like seafood and Tyler wasn’t feeling it. I highly recommend going to Sushi Avenue for sushi. You can’t go wrong.
What is something new that you want to try but haven’t? What is stopping you from trying it?
