Last Friday my son came home with some great news. He won his school’s spelling bee and he was going to the district. First of all I was completely shocked because just the day before he told me he was going to be the alternate. The way he told me was kind of funny though. I met him at the bus stop like I normally do. He was looking kind of sad so I asked him what was wrong. He told me that instead of being the alternate like he thought he was going to be he was informed that he was going to actually be in the spelling bee. I was kind of taken aback because I knew for a fact that he didn’t get much time to study. So I was upset. I’m thinking how dare they throw my child into a spelling bee that he wasn’t prepared for. I was ranting and raving like I had lost my mind. Next thing I know I here him calling my name and he has this big grin on his face. That’s when he told me that he actually won.
I am so proud of my son. This is actually his second time making it to the district spelling bee. He actually made it once before in the fourth grade and last year he was the alternate. It seems he really has the knack for spelling.
